Year of Yes | How to Dance It out, Stand in the Sun and Be Your Own Person, Shonda Rhimes

year-of-yes-shonda-rhimesYear of Yes: How to Dance It Out, Stand in the Sun and Be Your Own Person by Shonda Rhimes found its way into my reading list at the exact right moment. In this wonderful book Rhimes talks about what it is like to have  an unbelievable career, a family, and still not feel completely happy about it all. She tells us what it is like to find your happiness, and to take chances on things you might never have considered. Each chapter focuses on a different part of her life that she was working on saying”yes” to.  Shonda Rhimes shows you how to bring the “badassery” (a newly invented Shonda Rhimes word that I will now use reguarly) back into your life.
I read this at the most perfect time in my life. I needed the advice, the encouragement, and the literary support that Rhimes provided me while reading her book. I have post its and tabs all over this book, marking passages I thought were important to me. Almost like I read it for school. It made me realize how many things were self inflicted, and what mentality I need to be in. She helped me realize that I do need to say yes to things, but that it’s okay to say no as well. Grey’s Anatomy has been my favorite TV show since season 1. Each time Meredith and Christina danced it out, I felt like I was dancing with them. Sometimes that’s what you need, to dance it out and let your mind be free. If you have enjoyed any of Shonda Rhimes’s shows you will enjoy the writing in her book. It’s New Year’s Day! It’s time to start saying “Yes!” to things and remember what it is like to be you! Until next time,

Countdown to 2017!

new-years-eve-2016
It’s officially New Year’s Eve!! The time of the year where we reflect on the year behind us and look forward to the year before us. When I look back on 2016 I don’t like everything that I see. I lost myself in 2016 and in 2017 I would like to find myself again. During the year I found myself getting discouraged about school, trying to take care of everyone else, and not taking care of my health. I let my grades drop and allowed my weight to rise. I had more anxiety this year than I ever have had. I lost the love of my life, my dog, Justin.
Of course there were good things I went on vacation with the most unique extended family ever. I went with my boyfriend for his first ever vacation! I got a new car and got a new dog, Barrett. I attempted to make more meaningful friendships, but found myself stressing about pleasing everyone. I tried many new things and found new things that I would like to try.
In 2017 I would like to get back to knowing me and loving me. Yes that does include wanting to lose weight, and continue the mantra “new year, new me”, but I do truly feel like I lost myself 2016. I want to read more, explore new things, and find out who I am again. Basically, I’m going to be selfish. I still plan on loving my family, my dog, and my boyfriend, and will try to give them what they need at a reasonable expense to myself. In 2017 I would like to be unequivocally happy in everything that I do. What are some of your resolutions for the new year? Until next time,

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Now that all the presents have been opened and the the gift wrap has been cleaned up it’s time to sit down and enjoy a nice cup of hot chocolate. Christmas is always a joyful occasoin in my family, filled with traditions and holiday cheer. We make the time to go to my mom’s house to spend the night and wait on Santa and his reindeer to come. This year my boyfriend joined us and it was Barrett’s (the dog’s) first Christmas as well! We always enjoy a huge country breakfast and we go see a movie as well. What do you and your family do?! Until next time,
Here is Barrett’s picture with Santa!!

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Happy Thanksgiving!!
We all have so much to be thankful for. I know that I do. I’m thankful for my family, my boyfriend, my friends, my dog. I’m thankful for my health, my job, and waking up in the morning. I’m also thankful for books and being able to read. These are only a few things that I am thankful for in a long list of things to be thankful for. It’s very easy to get tied up in the things that we don’t have, and not remember the good that we do have. I know I often times dwell on that one insignificant thing that made me mad, sad, or annoyed and missed out on the rest of the good around me. Take this time to share something new with your friends or family and to remember everything that you are thankful for. In my Etsy Shop, I will be having a 20% off sale with the code THANKFUL please feel free to look around. Have a fantastic holiday and until next time,
