I just graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in the spring, and I cannot believe that it is already time for me to go back for Homecoming! I cannot wait to see my Pitt family that I spent an incredible four years with. There’s something about going to back to a place you called home for so long. You want to see what has changed, what has stayed the same. You want to visit all of the places that you spent so much time at. Of course some of the biggest experiences come from the people that you spent the time with, and that is what I cannot wait for. Being from the south, not too many of us choose to go up north for school, so there’s not that many people at home who know Pitt traditions. Luckily, I talk to people pretty regularly from school, so I’m never too Pittsick… is that a thing? I’m making it a thing. If there’s one thing I learned while at school was how to be proud of my school. I spent years being part of Alumni organizations that help to keep people together, and I knew after I graduated I wanted to make sure I stayed connected. I love going to Atlanta Pitt Club events, so I can meet other Atlanta alumni to sing Sweet Caroline with. Also being involved in Greek life at Pitt (shout to Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.), I talk to my line sisters all the time as well as other members of Pitt NPHC. Being able to see all of them face to face again is what is going to make all of the difference. Did I mention we’re playing Georgia Tech for homecoming?! It’s like a double home game for me! Also don’t forget about teachers! I was in a program where I had very few teachers, which meant they knew all of us, and I spent two stress-filled, amazing years, I know does that make any sense? I have to make sure I visit my teachers to let them know that I’m doing great, and they helped me out a lot.
I would say if you get a chance to go to your homecoming, GO! Save up the money take the time, to revisit a place that helped to shape who you are today. Without the University of Pittsburgh I wouldn’t be a paramedic, wouldn’t be a member of Mu Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, and I wouldn’t know the feeling of having traditions that matter. Oh, and I wouldn’t have a reason to do the Pitt rendition of Sweet Caroline whenever it comes on. Here’s to homecoming! HAIL TO PITT!!! Until next time,
