#MedicLife: Using the Medical ID on your iPhone

No one ever thinks about not being able to use your phone in an emergency, but what happens if you need to? Say you’re in a car accident and you’re not able to answer EMS’ questions. Maybe you had an allergic reaction to something you ate, but no one around you knows what caused it, and you can’t speak. Say you partied too hard one night, and you blacked out, or ended up somewhere you weren’t supposed to be. Or, on the lighter side let’s say that you lost your phone somewhere random, and there’s no way for someone to unlock it to call your family.
The newer iPhones have something called the Medical ID! It is the equivalent of having the bracelet around your wrist, but this can hold so much more information, and can be accessed from your lock screen. It takes 2 minutes to set up, and can be so beneficial down the line.
1. Start by finding the Apple Health Kit App on your iPhone (excuse my background)
2. Open the app ( I know seems like an unnecessary step)
3. Look on the bottom of the screen to press the Medical ID information
4. Scroll down until you see “Edit” information, and put in all of your information! Especially allergies!
5. Don’t forget to make it visible from your lock screen. That is the most important part!
I hope you found this information helpful! Please share this with friends and family. Until next time,

Time For Change!

I have been writing 90s Born Reader for a while now (read that, years!), and it is time for a change. It’s time to get a grown up name, and not something I made up when I was a teenager one summer. It’s time to make this into something that I truly love and want to build and not just use as a hobby, or when I feel like writing. So, I introduce to you www.lifeisapageturner.com !! I still love books, and you will still see me posting about books whenever I have time to read them, but I wanted to expand. I wanted to add some things about being a student and a creative spirit (which can be found on Etsy). I did not want to be limited any more. I wanted the name of my new website to capture that essence, and honestly I do believe that life is a page turner. There are so many chapters to our lives and there is always the desire to keep turning that page to find out what happens next! I hope you subscribe to my blog and follow me on social media, which will be linked below. Thank you for being apart of this crazy thing we call life. Until next time,

Why I Chose an In Person MCAT Class

Studying In Bed
Follow my Instagram @90sbornreader!
You’ve been taking all of your classes needed to go to medical school. You’ve taken biology, chemistry, physics, and plenty more science classes. You’ve decided on either doing research or clinical experience or maybe even both, but now it’s time to focus on the next most important test of your carer. The MCAT. If you made the decision to go to med school then you know how important this exam is, but maybe you don’t know where to start.

Barrett is not the best study partner
Do I take a class? Do I study on my own? Do I only do practice exams? Do I solely rely on my test taking abilities from school? For this you have to truly decide what is best for you. How did you do well in school? Did you do better when you had homework or practice problems, or did you do better when all you had to do was read and memorize? For me I was, and am a person who does better with practice problems and things that make me have to review the work. I’ve never really done well with trying to do things on my own or online classes. I can make too many excuses to not do work.
For those reasons I chose to do my MCAT class in person. That means I have to be somewhere twice a week with a teacher and do the work of the class. It is going to force me to do the work, and it gives me someone to ask questions to when I want to know what the exam is like.  Yes the class is SUPER expensive, but I’m hoping that it is worth it, and they do have a better score guarantee. I’ll get more into the actual class later. Until next time,

Wanderlust: What To Do Before You Travel to China

before-china
So, you’ve decided to make a trip to China! You’re so excited to go see some place new, but old all at the same time. There are some things that you need to be aware of before you go.
  1. PASSPORT!
I’m hoping because you’ve decided to travel internationally that you have looked into getting a passport. If you haven’t please start the process of obtaining one here. It can take weeks to months to get a new passport, and to renew a passport. If you have a passport make sure that it doesn’t expire within 6 months of you trying to go to China. Finally, make sure you have multiple pages remaining in your passport for the Chinese Visa.
  1. Chinese Visa
Check your local area for a consulate. If you don’t have a Chinese consulate then do another search for places that provide Chinese Visa services. Most places don’t have a Chinese consulate, but they do have satellite places that are able to do the visa for you. For example, here in Georgia we do not have an consulate. Houston has the nearest consulate, but the Houston consulate excepts visa from: AL, AK, FL, GA, LA, MS, OK, and TX.
  1. VPN

China has internet restrictions and many of your favorite social media accounts will not be accessible while you’re there. Also many websites will be blocked, even if you can get on them when you get there it is possible they will be blocked during trip. There are many subscriptions on VPNs ranging from a month to a year. It allows you to privately browse the web, so that nothing will be blocked. Do some research BEFORE you go. You CANNOT do this while you’re there.

  1. Voltage Converter and Plug Adaptor

Lastly don’t forget to get an voltage converter  and plug adaptor. North America mostly uses 110V while China uses 220V. Also the plugs are different in China than they are in North America, so your normal plugs won’t work. In my opinion it is easiest to get an all in one voltage converter and plug adaptor that way you only need on tool. You can then get a multi-plug to be able to plug in the rest of your electronics without needing a converter for every plug.

These are the top four things that I believe that you need before you go to China!! Does anyone have any other tips and ideas that you need to consider before you go to China?! Until next time,
