Wake (A Watersong Novel), Amanda Hocking

Wake Bookcover

“Come now weary traveler, I’ll lead you through the waves. Worry not, poor voyager, for my voice is the way”

In Wake by Amanda Hocking, a young girl named Gemma is forced to make a life changing decision. Gemma is young girl in  sea town who loves to swim. She swims so much that she feels best when in the water and feels one with the water. It is her affinity for the water that she attracts the attention of the “pretty” girls in town. It turns out the pretty girls in town aren’t pretty inside and out, and there’s a lot more to them than anyone knows. What the people of this sea town do know is that since they showed up, boys have gone missing and everyone is drawn to them without knowing why.

Honestly I did not enjoy this book one bit. The best part about it was the side love story that was happening with her older sister. I thought the book was really confusing in trying to figure out the mystery of the pretty girls. Only instead of being twists and turns and a curve ball, it was just weird. It wasn’t a very difficult read, and didn’t take very long other than the fact that I didn’t want to read it. I personally don’t reccommend this book, but she has written a lot of them, so they must be good to others, so I wouldn’t want to knock anyone else from trying it. Until next time,

Road Trip!

With my last year of undergrad starting it was time for me to take the road trip back up to Pittsburgh. When ever I start a trip, I always try and think of what books can I bring. With a twelve hour road trip, I knew I was going to need to work on  something. On this trip I brought both of JK Rowling’s new books, the non Harry Potter ones, but I didn’t get very far. I ended up sleeping most of the time, which isn’t bad. I know some people say that can’t read in the car because it makes them sick. I know for me it’s a great way to pass the time. You get lost in the world of the book and then next thing you know it’s been a few hours and it’s time for you to drive again. I never got into the audio book thing. Maybe it’s because I’m a visual person and I would zone out of the book and miss a few pages. I don’t know. What do you do for road trips?! Until Next time,

Inferno, Dan Brown

Inferno Cover

“The memories materialized slowly  …   like bubbles surfacing from the darkness of a bottomless well.

A veiled woman.
Robert Langdon gazed at her across a river whose churning waters ran red with blood. On the far bank, the woman stood facing him, motionless, solemn, her face hidden by a shroud. In her hand she gripped a blue tainia cloth, which she now raised in honor of the sea of corpses at her feet. The smell of death hung everywhere.

Seek, the woman whispered. And ye shall find.

Langdon heard the words as if she had spoken them inside his head. “Who are you?” he called out, but his voice made no sound.

Time grows short, she whispered. Seek and find.”

If you’re not already buying the book by now, I hope the rest of this makes you want to buy this book. From the very first couple of pages of Dan Brown’s Inferno I was hooked and couldn’t put it down! Robert Langdon wakes up and finds himself in a hotel, has no idea why or how he got there, all he knows is what the doctor tell him. One, he’s been shot, and two, he’s in Italy neither of which he remembers happening. As he comes to he knows that once again he’s been thrown into some mystery that apparently only he can solve! Also if you haven’t inferred from the title of this miraculous book it’s all about Dante’s “Inferno”. Robert Langdon finds himself once again running around Europe trying to figure out why these things are happening to him, who he can trust, what Dante’s “Inferno” has anything to do with it, and how to save the world.
Obviously I loved this book! It took me no time at all to read it. I was stuck and determined to figure out how I could help Robert Langdon saved the world. Of course I’m not a symbolist, nor have I been to Europe… yet… so I wasn’t much help, but I still tried. That counts for something… right?  Honestly just read it! Angels and Demons, The Da Vinci Code, and The Lost Symbol were amazing and this one didn’t pale in comparison at all. Until Next Time,

E-Reader vs. Real Books

I think that I’ve probably done a post like this before, but the other night I was reading a book in bed, instead of reading on my iPad. I know woe is me reading a book instead of an iPad, but the problem I was having was the book was rather large!! (I was reading Dan Brown’s Inferno and Sarah Dessen’s The Moon and More) It was hard for me to hold the book and get comfortable in bed.

I’ve been trying to get books on my iPad (kindle app), but when I own things by an author, I have to continue getting those books in print. I have to have the whole collection! I mean who just wants to see one of a series on the shelf… no one that’s who. Let me know what you think of e-reader vs. books!! It also seems like e-readers might be putting some book stores out of business, or at least that’s what I’ve heard… until next time,

The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald

the-great-gatsby

Hope.

I can’t think of what a better word describes the magnificent story of The Great Gatsby. To me The Great Gatsby is about a man who has held on to so much hope and love in his life that it has consumed him to the point where he has changed himself. He created someone he thought she wanted to see, but so much time has passed she’s not even sure the love she once had is the same.
Hope.
Even with all of the parties, symbolism, and American history that is portrayed in this novel, it is that word that sticks out to me. The feeling that at the right moment and at the right time what you want will happen, and what you have worked for will happen. That constant yearning for something and knowing that a positive outcome will come about it. That is what I love about Jay Gatsby, and that is what I ultimately take away from it, and I hope that one day I too will have “green light” to look out at. Until next time,
