The Raven Boys, Maggie Stiefvater

– Short Story –

The Raven Boys by Maggie Steifvater follows one of our main characters Blue Sargent. Blue comes from a family of clairvoyants, or seers as we normally understand them to be. Blue herself cannot see, but she does have the ability to enhance what the rest of her family sees around her. It also follows our other main character, Gansey, and his friends who attend the local private school of Aglionby. The boys that attend her are often called Raven Boys due to their uniforms and their mascot. Gansey is more than rich private school kid who has grown up with privilege his entire life. He has been searching for something, and that search leads Blue and Gansey together, but Blue has always grown up with one warning coming from her mother. She has always been told that she will cause her true love to die, so she has always tried to stay away from such things that tempt fate. We all know though, that you cannot run away from fate as it always finds you.

– My Thoughts –

I did not really enjoy The Raven Boys and because it was such a hyped book and series I thought that I would love it.  I just did not understand the story and how it all went together. At one point I thought it might magical realism and another point I thought that it might be historical fiction, and at another point I thought that it was fantasy. There were a lot of different parts to the book and only a couple of things surprised me, I was very happy about those twists and surprises though because that is what really kept me reading the book. I always give a series a second book, and I am going to read the second book. I read Steifvater’s Shiver a long long time ago, and I believed I enjoyed it. People swear by this series, so I’ll give it another chance, but as I said it just wasn’t for me. Tell me what you thought of the book if you read it! I would love to hear about. Until next time,

Wanderlust: Pisa

Our next stop on our Italian adventure was visiting Pisa! I’m not going to lie, seeing the Leaning Tower of Pisa has been on my bucket list for sometime. Seeing it in person was very different than what I ever could have imagined. Believing that hey, maybe the ground is on a slant, or maybe the foundation gave way. There was every intention of the building being straight, but somewhere the building became tilted. The Leaning Tower is actually a Bell Tower in the Piazza dei Miracoli that goes with the Duomo di Pisa in the plaza and two other buildings.
We had a fun time exploring the Plaza of Miracles, and of course we had to get pizza in Pisa. Check out our pictures below!

We tried so many times to get the iconic picture of “pushing” the tower back straight. Let’s just say someone didn’t understand the concept….

Is Pisa a place that is on your bucket list? Until next time,
