The soundtrack to the pages

Often time I’m able to read without listening to music or having any noise around me. I often get distracted by having the TV on or the music on my laptop playing and I have to turn it off to concentrate. When I’m in public places I find that I have to read while listening to my iPod just so I can drown out the noise that is going on around me. If I don’t I find myself people watching, or not knowing what I’m reading at the time. I bet that’s true for a lot of people who like to read in their free time in public places.

But! Have you ever had that moment when reading where your music goes seamlessly with what you’re reading? Almost like you’ve created the soundtrack for those pages? Well I have, and each time I’ve felt that no other than John Legend has been on my iPod singing All of Me.
While I was reading The Fault in Our Stars, John Legend was singing to me and for Gus and Hazel. The book already made me cry, but this moment made me feel so much more. I had never felt such perfection in a moment. The same song, was on while reading The Book Thief with Rudy and Liesel and it completed the scene without fail.
For someone who keeps their iPod on shuffle in order to always have a surprise, it’s strange when these match ups occur, but they make falling into an imaginary world that much better. Until next time,

The Fault in Our Stars, John Green

fault in our stars
This story is about a young girl named Hazel who is in the fight of her life. Or, really it is more like a battle because there is no way she can win the fight. Hazel has cancer and she will always have difficulty breathing due to the fluid that has filled her lungs, but that does not stop her from living the life that she wants. In her support group she meets a boy who will forever change her life, Augusts Waters. Augusts also has cancer, but he is one of the “lucky ones” and is now considered cancer free, but in his battle he lost his leg. What the two of them found in each other is something that only a few people can hope to gain in a full lifetime, that these two teenagers found in their battles.

This novel got me. Yes, it got me. This novel touched so many emotions of mine, some of which I didn’t know I had. To me the overall idea of it was uplifting, and made me want to reevaluate my life, and how I see myself and others around me. To me the whole premise of the novel was to live life the way you want to, find true love and go after it no matter what the consequences may be. To truly let your heart be opened even if you think it might be shattered. What I also really enjoyed was that there was a story within a story, with the one that she was reading, and the one that was going on in her life, and the similarities that came about. The amount of tears I had reading this was ridiculous. It has been a long time since a novel effected me as much as this one did. Well that’s kind of true. The Five People You Meet in Heaven also made me think about life to its core. John Green did a fantastic job with this, and I can’t wait to read more of his work. I just recently got Looking for Alaska and I cannot wait to read that either. If you can’t tell, of course I recommend this novel. I would read it again if I felt like I can take the emotional tole of it, but I don’t think that I can. Until next time,

Happy Birthday to Me!!

Today is my birthday!! And on my birthday I thought about all the books that I have loved over the years. Really what I did is think of the books that came immediately to mind. Here are the books that came to my mind in no particular order:

  1. Old Magic
  2. Twilight Series
  3. Divergent Series
  4. Harry Potter Series
  5. Life of Pi
  6. Angels and Demons
  7. Pendragon Series
  8. Fearless Series
  9. Things Fall Apart
  10. The Fault in Our Stars
  11. The Book Thief
  12. Mortal Instruments Series

And so many more! With quick thinking I was lead to these answers. I know there are some names that I’m forgetting that have been my favorite through out my life, like Goodnight Moon. Birthdays are supposed to be a celebratory day, and thinking of the times that are ahead, but today I’m thinking about the past, and all the fun moments I’ve had reading. Until next time,

Catching Fire: Movie vs. Book

catching fire movie  Catching_fire

Of course I went and saw this at midnight, or really the 11:30 showing I believe it was, so sorry for the late post. Y’all know I get behind. Did I mention that I bought my tickets a month in advance too? Yeah that happened, I’m a little crazy. Anyway!  We should all know what the book is about because we read it before the movie right?! If not, shame on you! Always try to read the books before the movies! So much can be left out of a movie, like some of the questions people have, due to time constraints. You don’t want to be in the theater for 5 hours watching it, and they don’t want to spend billions making the movie.

I think they did a great job with the movie! I didn’t feel like anything important was left out of the movie from the book. I also think that this one is my favorite from the trilogy anyway. Honestly I don’t have much to say I think that it was very well done. The only problem that I had with it, a minor problem, was the party scene and Katniss’ conversation with the new Game Keeper, and how he showed his watch at the party and Katniss caught something out of the corner of her eye. Other than that, the costumes were once again amazing, and I’m glad that the didn’t skimp on the violence that was happening in the district. I would watch it again, many times. Until next time,

Allegiant, Veronica Roth

     allegiant

The start of this book continued right were the last one left off. The factionless have taken over, and things are looking bleak for Tris who has been imprisoned once again for treason. Oh did I mention that Tris and Marcus found a recording of someone from a long time ago who told them that basically their life is a lie, and something needs to be done about the happenings going on outside the fence, and nothing that they know is actually true. Yep, that happened. Of course curiosity gets a hold of Tris, and she has to know what is going on outside of the fence, which people have been telling her her whole life is dangerous, but they don’t know why. Also on the rise are a group of people who are becoming rebels to Four’s mom being in charge, and they are calling themselves the Allegiant, and they would like for Tris to help them. Tris decides that the Allegiant should be helped, and they make a plan to get outside of the city and on the other side of the fence. What they find there is something none of them would ever expect.

Honestly, this was my least favorite book of all three. Maybe from the way it ended, maybe from not so real twists and turns, maybe because the relationships that were being formed are falling apart, and a lot of random names are starting to come together. Maybe it’s because too many people have power complexes. It took me quite a few days to read this, and not just because of school either. There were just some parts that were difficult to get through, unlike the other where I could blow through those in 5 hours, and not have the desire to move from the spot I was reading to get through it. Of course you have to finish out the series, so get to reading, but if you did not like the end of Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins, you won’t like this either. Until next time,
