The Mortal Instruments, City of Bones Movie vs. Book

city of bones cover City-of-Bones

I’m not going to lie, I was kind of sad after I left the movies. I absolutely loved everyone of these books, which you know if you read my posts, but I was bored by the movie. I think they did some great things like the way the demons looked and the way the institute looked. I especially appreciated that the werewolves truly turned into werewolves and not half men creatures. I wasn’t thrilled with who Magnus Bane was played by because I expected him to be so much more, so much…extra. Instead he was flat, and the only interesting thing he did was called Alec cute. Jace wasn’t cocky enough for me and he didn’t make his voice charismatic enough. I absolutely love Jamie Campbell Bower in Sweeny Todd, and like his performance in that so much more.

I like the way they brought the witch light to life, and how they made the Steeles different for different people.  I also really appreciate that I felt like they stuck to the book really well, and nothing was added, or anything significant was taken out. I like how they made the buildings change when looking past the glamour. They did great when it came to the special effects, and making it all come together.

I waited so long to see this movie, and was so excited for it, and now I can’t say that I’m excited for it at all. I still recommend that you see it of course, but I wouldn’t have high hopes. Am I going to go see the rest of the movies as they come out. Well yeah, of course, and I do believe that they’ll get better as they go. I’m not sure if the movie is still in theaters, It’s probably not, but if it is I recommend you seeing it to support this growing franchise!!

City of Lost Souls (Mortal Instruments), Cassandra Clare

IT’S THE FINAL COUNT DOWN!!! (Yes I know the song is now stuck in your head.

It’s official Jace has gone off the deep end and Clary only know one thing. How to love Jace. Oh, and that she has a crazy brother who has a plan to dominate the world but doesn’t have a definitive name.. is it Sebastian or is it Jonathan. He doesn’t even know.  Jordan and Maia are finding themselves, Simon once again is trying to save the world by himself, and Alec and Magnus need to get some relationship counseling. But seriously that’s the whole book in a nutshell. I don’t want to say too much, but through all this Clare has me captivated reading City of Lost Souls the whole time.
Of course I loved this book. Who wouldn’t love the last one? If you’ve made it this far loving every step you’re going to love the las step as well. I recommend this book to anyone and everyone, but you have to read the first 4 first. I’ve said so much about the last 4 that I think you all understand my slight obsession. So please until next time,

City of Fallen Angels, Cassandra Clare

Of course Cassandra Clare has continued to make this series everything that i can hope for and plain continuing to read these, even as school quickly approaches. City of Fallen Angels is once again tantalizing and filled with romance and twists. If you haven’t read the first three check out City of BonesCity of Ashes, and City of Glass posts by clicking on the title.

Saving the world once again from destruction, you would think everything would be all smiles for Clary and Jace, and it starts out just as that for those two. Clary gets to start Shadowhunter training with Jace and others under strict rules by Clary’s mother, Joscelin. While Clary gets to learn how to defend herself and learn more about being a Shadowhunter, Joscelin is finally planning her wedding with Luke, the love of each of their lives.

It’s not soon after that everything seems great, that things start going down hill. First a member of each clan of downworlders is found dead and it is up to the Shadowhunters to figure out what is happening. Then in the love smitten world of Jace and Clary, Jace starts acting weird again towards Clary and tries to “fix” everything by himself without talking to Clary.
Simon on the other side of things is having to learn how to deal with the mark of Cane, Clary gave him. He is also finding out that his mom is suspicious of the way he has been acting recently and is close to finding out his secret. Simon is also learning that he is a hot/ feared commodity among the vampire world and that everyone wants him in some way, shape, or form.
Of course I absolutely loved this book. I could not put this book down at all, I had to keep reading it because of the suspense, the romance, and the mysteries that the characters added to the book with their relationships to one another. Also the Cassandra Clare introduced some new and very important characters to this story as well. If you haven’t started this series yet, you need to get on it. You won’t be able to put it down and you will love every last minute of it. Until next time,

City of Glass (Mortal Instruments), Cassandra Clare

Well Cassandra Clare continues to amaze and entice me with the next Mortal Instruments book, City of Glass. If you haven’t read the first two books City of Bones and City of Ashes click on the titles to read my posts! Clary and Jace are no ordinary people and they’re starting to figure exactly what that means. After the fight between Valentine and his demonic army, and the Shadowhunters, everyone finally understands that Valentine truly is back, and he is plotting his ride to the top. In order to try and get things solved and accomplished Jace and the Lightwoods are heading to Alacante to try and get the Clave’s help. Clary of course wants to go as well because she has never seen Alacante, but Jace tries to do everything in his power to keep Clary from there for her own safety…well so he says.
Clary being Clary she finds away for her and Luke to get there so that she can find the way to save her mother.

Once there as usual when it comes to Clary and Jace, all hell breaks loose and it is up to those two to make everything right again. Along the way they find out more about themselves and about Valentine.

As usual I absolutely love this series!!! I cannot wait to read the next two books and the prequel series Infernal Devices. I honestly don’t have much else to say other than READ THESE BOOKS!!!

City of Ashes (Mortal Instruments), Cassandra Clare

Jace and Clary are back together… well kind of. After the few days they had had together they needed some time to rest and regroup. One of their many problems though were that they were not doing it together. Simon is being tested by Jace and Clary’s relationship even though they all know that the two of them can’t be together, Jace and Clary that is. Simon is also facing his own inner battles that his best friend is having a hard time noticing. To top it all off, Valentine is back and has the Mortal Cup, Jace is in love with his sister, and Clary is in love with her brother, but they know that they can’t be together. Also Jace is being tried for conspiring with Valentine to basically take over the world, and the Inquisitor is being brought in to question Jace, but she has a secret grudge against him making him constantly guilty. Also Clary has her hands filled with her own family problems from her mom, Jocelyn, being permanently asleep, and Luke being a werewolf she has a lot on her plate.

As you can see there is a lot going on in the next book of the Mortal Instruments series, and there is never a dull moment. I’m still in love with these books and enjoying the series so much. I still recommend these books to the highest level, especially if you love the romance of Twilight, the magical aspect of Harry Potter, and the badassness (made it up, perfect word though) of The Hunger Games. I’m going to continue reading the other 3 books that are left, and will read the Prequel Trilogy that comes before it! So we all know that means more posts!!!!
