Clockwork Angel (Infernal Devices), Cassandra Clare

Clockwork-Angel-Cover

If you thought Cassandra Clare was done after the stories of Jace and Clary, you were wrong. She decided to show us the beginning of their stories with a little trip back in time to London, to start at the stories of Tessa, Will, and Jem. Their story starts off a little different, with Will rescuing an unknown damsel in distress, Tessa. Tessa finds herself in the hands of two great Shadowhunters, Will and Jem, but she also finds out that she has powers that she never knew she had. It turns out Tessa is a shape shifter, and somehow part demon though she has no idea how that happened. Life at the Institute is changed forever after Tessa has come to be apart of their family and home.

What I do really like about this series is that if you read Mortal Instruments first, you will see a lot of names in this book that you saw before like Wayland, Lightwood, and Magnus Bane. It is those little details that help bring both books together and allows you to see where some of the characters got the personality that we see from Mortal Instruments in Infernal Devices.

There are a lot cool twists and turns to this book, which I would expect from Clare, but at the same time I felt like I was still readying The Mortal Instruments series. There was a really attractive male with a hot head attitude, and a girl who had more powers than she actually new about who is in love with the hot headed boy, and that same boy doesn’t know how to act around her. Another female who think she’s too good for most, and another male who is the lesser, but still amazing version of the boy.

Larry’s Girls, Thomas Green Jr.

So, Larry’s Girls by Thomas Green Jr. was an interesting book. This was this year’s gag gift from my mother, and what a gag it was. We all know how much I love reading and she said she bought this book to “Help a brotha out”. After reading this book I can see that he is going to need all the help he can get. It was not just the typos, repeated paragraphs and pages, run on sentences, and all around mess of the book that made it bad. It was the “story” line. When the author described it to my mother he said that it was book that would suit a college educated woman due to the fact that it is set in a college scene. Well, I don’t know how many college educated women that he has talked to, but this was not suitable.

It was mainly about sex of college coeds and so called “relationships” that happen in those types of situations. Granted the book took me a day to read in between getting calls at my clinical site, so it was not difficult to read at all. Well, except for getting confused that there were repeated paragraphs and pages, that I think were supposed to be the same…? I’m not sure. If you want to “help a brotha out” then by all means get this book and read it, but if not…. then don’t. Until next time,

In Search of Sisterhood, Paula Giddings

Image

So, first let me proclaim that I am guilty of not actually finishing the whole book… I just didn’t have time to!

I will say that if you are looking to become a member of the illustrious sorority of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc, it is a good place to start to learn about some of the women, 22 founders to be exact, and what they did to start this sorority.
I will also say that it is a difficult read, dry, making you not want to read it and just kind of lear what you know from everyone else who is already apart of the sorority.
A little shameless plug for me, I just became a part of this wonderful sorority, Spring ’13 a part of Mu Chapter at the University of Pittsburgh!!

Awakened (House of Night Series book 8), P.C. Cast and Kristen Cast

Zoey and Stark are back from the Realm of Nyx and they are starting to find out what exactly being a consort means for Stark now. With all that they have been through their relationship continues to grow stronger on the Isle, but they aren’t quite ready to go back to the real world. Though everything in the real world is not quite as wonderful as it is on the Isle.

Back at school Stevie Rae, Aphrodite and everyone else are dealing with a lot of things from death of friends and families to the school reopening. Neferet is back in charge and is getting more and more powerful every day because there is no evidence of all the wrong she has done, and Kalona has a plan to get his powers back.
So much is happening in the next book of this series. Awakened is once again another book that really grabbed my attention the whole entire time of reading it. If you got bored somewhere around book 6 or 7 keep going!! They really pick and more and more is adding on. I really enjoyed every minute of it and would definitely recommend it to everyone and to keep going with the readings!

City of Fallen Angels, Cassandra Clare

Of course Cassandra Clare has continued to make this series everything that i can hope for and plain continuing to read these, even as school quickly approaches. City of Fallen Angels is once again tantalizing and filled with romance and twists. If you haven’t read the first three check out City of BonesCity of Ashes, and City of Glass posts by clicking on the title.

Saving the world once again from destruction, you would think everything would be all smiles for Clary and Jace, and it starts out just as that for those two. Clary gets to start Shadowhunter training with Jace and others under strict rules by Clary’s mother, Joscelin. While Clary gets to learn how to defend herself and learn more about being a Shadowhunter, Joscelin is finally planning her wedding with Luke, the love of each of their lives.

It’s not soon after that everything seems great, that things start going down hill. First a member of each clan of downworlders is found dead and it is up to the Shadowhunters to figure out what is happening. Then in the love smitten world of Jace and Clary, Jace starts acting weird again towards Clary and tries to “fix” everything by himself without talking to Clary.
Simon on the other side of things is having to learn how to deal with the mark of Cane, Clary gave him. He is also finding out that his mom is suspicious of the way he has been acting recently and is close to finding out his secret. Simon is also learning that he is a hot/ feared commodity among the vampire world and that everyone wants him in some way, shape, or form.
Of course I absolutely loved this book. I could not put this book down at all, I had to keep reading it because of the suspense, the romance, and the mysteries that the characters added to the book with their relationships to one another. Also the Cassandra Clare introduced some new and very important characters to this story as well. If you haven’t started this series yet, you need to get on it. You won’t be able to put it down and you will love every last minute of it. Until next time,
