A Court of Thornes and Roses, Sarah J. Maas

– Short Story – 

The world is split in two with the fairies, also known as Fae living in the north and the humans living in the south. The only thing that is separating them is a wall. The history of that wall comes from years of bloodshed and war when the Fae ruled the earth and kept the humans as slaves or worse. Finally the war ended and the humans, with the help of some Fae, were able to win the war. The wall was built to keep the Fae in as well as keep humans away from Prythian, the land where the fairies live.
Feyre has been the sole protector of her family ever since her father lost their fortune. Her sisters Nesta and Elaine have done nothing to help Feyre other than spend the little bit of money that she brings home. Her father has a knee injury, and is so far removed from the family that he does not even try to help other than some small wood carvings. When out in the woods one winter night, one kill of a wolf would change her life forever.
Next thing Feyre knows she’s being told by a wolf shaped fairy that she can either stay and die, or live out her life in Prythian, but she does owe a life death for the fairy that she killed. The only thing holding her back is that she made a promise to protect her family, but she decided to leave in order to keep her family alive, and her life is forever changed.

– My Thoughts – 

I know, I know I’m late to reading this series! It has been a long time since a book made me feel the way this one does. Sara J Maas does a magnificent job with the first installment of this series. ACOTAR makes you feel angerI felt like the characters have so many dimensions to them that we have yet to learn, and I feel like there is so much more to come. Feyre and Tamlin have an interesting dynamic, and Tamlin might be the one to bring Feyre out of the dark place that she has been living in for so long. Feyre is able to grow in ways she never thought she would be able to. I cannot wait to read A Court of Mist and Fury and I’m getting started on that right away! Until next time,

– Short Story –

Have you ever had a dream so bad you were willing to do whatever it takes to get it? Or, have you ever felt a deep sense of culture and self that you knew what your future held? For Dimple, she has always wanted to be a part of the coding world. Designing apps and games and anything else you can imagine. While for Rishi, he has also known that his culture is a large part of who he is and what he believes in, and because of that he also believes in arranged marriages. Dimple is not like every Indian girl and continues to try and push away from being the typical Indian girl wearing kohl eyeliner and sahris. When Dimple’s parents said that she is allowed to go to Insomnia Con 2017 after being accepted to Stanford University she thought that this final summer before college couldn’t get any better. What she did not know was that there was someone else coming to Insomnia Con to meet her, and that might change her life or she might affect change on someone else.

– My Thoughts –

I really enjoyed this book and I thought it was super cute! I don’t read contemporary a lot because of all of the love stories, but that is definitely what this book is about. It is a love story that takes place during a coding competition, but it really has nothing to do with coding. It’s all about the romance, and once you understand that it gets a lot better. I read it one day because it was so cute and made me happy. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a follow your heart type of book. Until next time,

Once and For All, Sarah Dessen

– Short Story – 

Weddings are supposed to be the most beautiful and memorable day of your relationship. For Louna, it’s just another day, another wedding, and another client that she has to help her mom deal with. It should be a flawless day of wedding and reception with all attention on the bride, but that doesn’t happen by itself, someone has to make the magic happen. The lure of love has been wasted on Louna with her mom, Natalie, and her mom’s best friend and coworker William, always betting on how long the happy couple will stay together after the wedding. That is until she meets someone at a wedding, which breaks all types of her own rules, and finally understands what love feels like. Unfortunately for them they live long distance, and don’t get to see each other after this fated night at a beach wedding. Until the unimaginable happens, and she is left feeling a heart break no one should ever have to feel, and she is stuck with Ambrose, whom her mom hired, who might possibly be the most positive guy in Colby, if not the world. Louna is trying to keep going and to fill the void with whatever work her mom has her do for the summer.

– What I Think – 

Sarah Dessen always manages to find a way to make you believe in love. During Once and For All I remembered what it was like to have that first love. The one that you believed would be forever only for something to happen to it that ruins the relationship, and the notion of love. To be wrapped in the feelings that love would never find you again until all of a sudden the unexpected happens, and there is someone right in front of you. There is a sameness to this novel from the others of hers, but I still enjoyed it nonetheless. If you are a Sarah Dessen fan then you will not be disappointed. She still makes you want to look for a love that can last. Definitely pick this one up, until next time.

Don’t Bring Books to College!!

Why do people feel the need to bring books from home to college? I know when I went to college, I was not thinking about bringing books at all. I didn’t want to move with them, I didn’t want to pack them, and I didn’t want them to take up space in my already small dorm room. Did you feel like you should bring books to college?
